QUESTION:

I was immersed when I first accepted the Messiah as my Savior, but now my pastor is insisting that I have not been forgiven, and that I need to be rebaptized in the correct Name of Messiah. I am sure of my salvation however. What should I do?

ANSWER:

Scripture tells us that we must work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Nobody else can determine your salvation for you. The working of the set-apart Spirit in your heart will convince you of the salvation of Yahweh, and if you have been cleansed and are walking in the renewed life of Messiyah, you will know it, regardless of what anyone else tells you. As you say, you are sure of your salvation. If you have been immersed and have committed your life to Messiyah, you need not become disturbed by those who would have you baptized again.

The problem that we have seen is that many "pastors" forget that people are being baptized into the truth of Yahweh, and instead seek to baptize people "into their organization". That is NOT what baptism is about.

A major issue people will stress is that you must be baptized in the correct pronunciation of the Savior's Name. This is something which you must determine within your own spirit. What was your faith like before you used the Name? Regardless of a different set of terms, were you still serving the same Elohim? There is so much more to the word "name" than just a pronunciation. "Name" also denotes one's character, reputation, authority, etc. Whether or not you were baptized using the terms "Yahweh" and "Yahshua", were you baptized in Yahshua's nature, authority, character, guidance, spirit, etc.? If so, then you were baptized in His Name.
